Ben Chanes

Founder

Ben Chanes is the founder and CEO of Chanes Tutoring, where he has provided instruction to over 3,750 students from various colleges and universities from across the country. Ben's passion for teaching all began in January 2019 when he started working as a General Chemistry Supplemental Instructor (SI) for LSU's Center for Academic Success. As an SI, Ben was able to serve over 800 students across three semesters where he learned the fundamentals of collaborative learning techniques while also assisting as a peer mentor to the Physics, Math, and Chemistry cohort. Ultimately, through the material he created and the interactions he had with his students, Ben was given the honor to be named the most outstanding SI at LSU for 2019.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in Spring 2020, Ben quickly observed that the quality and passion for online teaching was never the same as it was in person. He wanted to take matters into his own hands with the goal of creating high quality exam review materials that would give every student the academic experience they rightfully deserved. Hence, Chanes Tutoring was born in August 2020.

For the next few years, Ben would go on to create detailed content and passionate recordings for Organic Chemistry and Physics, continuously refining his materials based off the feedback he received from his students. In merely three years, Ben would graduate from LSU in May 2021 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences where he earned the distinction of summa cum laude finishing with a 4.162 cumulative GPA.

Now, Ben currently attends LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine, where he continues to offer monthly office hours for Chanes Tutoring to build upon the exam review materials he currently offers. In medical school, he has contributed back to the community by donating $10,000 to serve as the title sponsor for Geaux Bald in addition to $5,000 to serve as the title sponsor for Pars for Peds, both of which are pediatric cancer philanthropy organizations. Ben is set to graduate in May 2026 and is looking to pursue a career in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Nick Chanes, MD

Co-Founder

Nick Chanes is the co-founder of Chanes Tutoring, a venture he established with his brother Ben. His passion for education began in college, where he played a pivotal role as a Supplemental Instructor, guiding hundreds of students through difficult science courses. Nick’s dedication to teaching led him to create custom Organic Chemistry materials that are still in circulation on campuses today. Demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence, Nick self-taught the entire MCAT syllabus during his 3rd college semester and gained acceptance into medical school at just 20 years old.

In May 2019, Nick graduated from LSU with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, earning the summa cum laude distinction and being honored as a University Medalist (4.30 cumulative GPA). His love for teaching continued during his time at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, where he served as a peer educator across various courses. Nick graduated at the top of his class in May 2023, receiving Honors and the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha distinction.

Today, Nick remains deeply committed to education, continuing to tutor both undergraduate and medical students. As the original creator of Chanes Tutoring content, alongside his brother Ben, Nick is dedicated to enhancing the learning experience for all students. He is currently a General Surgery resident at the University of Colorado, with aspirations of becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
